This saree is woven in Andhra Pradesh/ Telangana and hand dyed in Rajasthan which adds a dull lustre to the silver/gold Ganga Jamuna borders and changes the shade of the zari to copper, bronze, beaten silver and other such metal shades.
The Gandaberunda Motif:
This bird has a deep historical link to the Mysuru Kingdom and it is the symbol of the Royal family of Mysore. It is also currently the official insignia of Karnataka.
According to Hindu Mythology, the Gandaberunda is said to possess immense magical strength. When Lord Vishnu, the Mediator, assumed the avatar of Narasimha to defeat Hiranyakashyapu, it created such a sense of fear amongst the other Gods that they sought the help of Lord Shiva. This, in turn, angered Narasimha even more, which led him to turn into the two-headed bird – The Gandaberunda.
Till date, Gandaberunda is a symbol of great power and welfare of people.
